Saturday morning
EggEgg and Cola woke up at 8am, both bouncing with excitement. EggEgg can manage to say 2 word sentences now: "Mami 焗 (bake). Nana 幫 (help). Baby meeh (carry). Baba guu (sleep)."
"What would you like to bake? Muffins or waffles?"
"Mah!"
"Would you like chocolate muffins, or apple muffins?"
"Chu-co!"
EggEgg stood on a stool and helped me with the chocolate orange muffins. We measured the flour, broke the eggs, stirred the batter, chucked in the huge chocolate chips, and most importantly, EggEgg decorated the top of the muffins with M&Ms. For some greedy reason, he preferred to invest all the M&Ms into one particular muffin which he claimed ownership, of course.
Saturday afternoon
EggEgg and Cola are having fun playing with Tonton in the garden: the scooter and trike have kept them entertained while I continue to hack at our 8 year old dining table. I have grossly underestimated the amount of time needed to sand and polish the timber surface. After 3 hours of noisy hard work, the stubborn bottom later of varnish refused to be removed. Enough of vibrations for the day, my hands are numb, the gloves, goggles and mask were coated in a thick layer of fine wood dust.
Sunday morning
My leisurely Sunday paper and breakfast was abruptly cut short when EggEgg came out of the bathroom stained with poo all over his legs. There's poo everywhere... on the pants, on the floor, on his legs. It's the first major disaster this month, I even have the humour to laugh about it while cleaning the entire bathroom.
In a half-serious tone, I warned EggEgg, "What did Mami tell you about pooing? Where should you poo?"
EggEgg points to the bathroom.
"What will happen if you do accidentally poo elsewhere again?"
EggEgg, "Mami 打 (hit)"
"What will become of you if I hit you?"
EggEgg, "豬! (Turn into a pig)"
"打到你變豬頭!! Heh heh."
Sunday afternoon
We visited the local hardware store, and how I secretly coveted everything: The 800W belt sander! The groovy wire cutter! The beautiful router! The drill bench! The 2m wood! The lucerne mulch! The cow manure! Luckily, EggEgg & Cola roamed around the store sharing my same enthusiasm. Tonton, on the other hand, would rather have a BBQ sausage out at the front door. Hehe.
We came back with lots of goodies (and a lighter wallet for Tonton). Soil preparation work on the veggie patch begins! With Cola on my back, I raked the dead leaves while Tonton & EggEgg got hands on with the weeding. Weeding casualties: EggEgg killed 1 tomato plant by accident, Tonton simply weeded everything brutally, killing 2 bean plants, 2 potatoes and God knows what other carcasses he had hidden without my knowing.
EggEgg loved working alongside Tonton: they weeded, laid down mulching newspaper, cleared the soil, spread mushroom compost. EggEgg even attemped to handle the shovel that's taller than himself, and he carried heavy bricks to hold down the mulch. Tonton & I were very proud of him today. Gentle Cola was snoring peacefully in the afternoon sun all this time.
The grotty boys had fun sharing a hot bath afterwards.
Sunday night
We're happy, and tired. The weekend flew by so quickly. EggEgg fell asleep during the dinner at the restaurant. We didn't have the heart to wake him. Let the poor guy rest, he's earned his ice-cream reward.
Cola, fully energetic now, is bouncing on my arms as I tried to balance the kimchi on my chopsticks.
