A stroll after dinner (part two)

Earlier this week, I taught EggEgg now to run. Run, as in spreading two legs wide apart, racing until one is breathless. At first EggEgg was hesitant, fearful that he might fall. After a couple of times racing me home from the supermarket, nowadays he's always challenging me and Tonton for a race. He beamed with pride each time he marginally beats me. No, I did not gave him any handicap. I was merely struggling with a stroller full of groceries and a 8kg baby.

We reached the outdoor carpark, illuminated by dim street lights, and I taught EggEgg another new trick: leaping off the kerb. He's 2-and-half years old now, yet has not learnt how to jump. Each time EggEgg tried to jump, his two feet are glued to the floor, totally uncoordinated. So we held hands, edged towards the ledge of the kerb, and leaped off. (Like 15cm off the ground?) Boy, after one rough landing, he was hooked! "Let's do it again!" And again. And again.

I've fulfilled my role in initiating him to a world of extreme sports. This month, I've taught EggEgg how to ride a trike and scooter. (Unfortunately, I fell flat on all fours as I rolled down the ramp. EggEgg kissed my bruised knee and reminded me a few days later: "Let's go again to the park where Mami Uh-Oh.")

It will be ice-skating, roller blading, skateboarding, skiing, mountain biking next. I hope my aging body doesn't embarrass me again when the day comes. This image of a "cool mum" doesn't come easy, you know. Heehee.
