Nice surprise this morning to see a blue sky. I hurried with washing 3 loads of laundry (7 towels, 4 bedsheets, 12 pants, 14 undies.) How can 1 little person soil so much material with his wee, poo, and snot in the space of a single week?
EggEgg & I whipped up the batter for banana waffles, with Cola watching on in the high chair. Tonton bought a new waffle maker, knowing that I've been craving for one for ages. EggEgg helped put together the electric mixer, cracked the eggs, measure out the flour, mixed the batter, and generally be a useful little person around the kitchen. This fella knows all parts of the kitchen well, where the tools are and has figured out the steps to do. (Soon enough, he'll be able to do this on Sundays without my help, heehee, and I'll be able to sleep in, and better still, have breakfast in bed!) Too bad, this waffle machine has a problematic hinge, it can't close properly and makes bad split waffles. What a disappointment, we've gotta return it to the shop soon.
We caught the newly opened Epping-Chatswood line to Chatswood on the complimentary pass. EggEgg loves trains, it's always an adventure. Although the train carriage is mostly empty, I'm teaching him how to stand astride and hold on to the hand rail. Toddlers love to act like grown ups, EggEgg was frantic and yelled 柱!柱! (Hold the pillar! Pillar!) when Tonton attempted to hold his hand when the train comes to a stop.
Cola's excited about the train too. He's happily chewing his fingers, playing with his toes, smiling at Tonton all the way to Chatswood.
Simple acts like crossing the platform gap turned out to be difficult with 2 kids. EggEgg's terrified of the great dark void in the platform gap. So, I can either push the stroller with Cola across the platform, or hold Egg's hands to walk over the platform gap, but not both at the same time. Eventually, after a bit of chaos, I had to rely on Tonton or a third party to get the kids in and out of the train! Never foreseen that problem before.
Had a pleasant lunch in my favourite sushi bar in Chatswood. Ever since becoming parents, we're coping really well with eating out with 2 kids, working with the 1 kid per parent strategy. By the end of the long lunch, Cola's wiggling in my arms, with various poses like superman or Cirque du Solei acrobats. Back arching, arms flapping, head flopping. I had to calm Cola by feeding him in public once again... (modesty? what modesty?). And yes, balancing a delicate piece of sushi with the other hand. EggEgg's following his bro's suit, squirming in Tonton's lap, slightly bored. But hey... the sushi's deeply satisfying.
We visited the local library afterwards. EggEgg has learnt the word 借 (borrow) and the concept of libraries. At home after finishing a story, he'd turn to the backpage where there are pictures of other books in the series. He'd point to each and say 借, 借, 借, 借.
In the library, we also found a sugar laced book of kiddies cakes. EggEgg's thrilled with the pictures and eagerly pointing out: What's this Mami? "That's a truck cake", "An umbrella cake", "A castle cake", "A ladybird cake"... Tonton's eyes were rolling, aghast at the sight of the sugary mass. 借!
