This is a nightly dilemma: it's 8:30pm and everybody is tired. Both EggEgg and Cola wants me to put them to bed. So who do I attend to first? No matter which boy I put to bed first with a story and a hug, the other one would be crying in the background or banging on the bedroom door, as if saying, "Hurry up Mami, it's my turn next!"
Last night I came up with a brilliant solution. Let's all get in bed together! There, I can do the whole show at one go: the story, the song, the chat, the hug. So I squeezed into the furthest corner of the bed, with baby Cola in the middle, but EggEgg kept rolling out as he fidgets around.
In the dim shade, as Cola feeds, I hum a lullaby while stroking EggEgg's head gently:
Little toy trains, little toy tracks
Little toy drums coming from a sack
Carried by a man dressed in white and red
Little boy, don't you think it's time you were in bed?
Close your eyes
Listen to the skies
All is calm, all is well
Soon you'll hear Kris Kringle and the jingle bells
After a few rounds, I assumed they would all be drowsy and be asleep in a couple of minutes. But no! Cola opened his eyes wide, and began to stroke EggEgg's head in the same manner as I did. EggEgg's amused and started to suck on Cola's chubby fingers. Cola let out a loud giggle.
They even began to "chat" with each other:
Cola: Booooooooooooo...
EggEgg: Mua ga ba ba hiya
Cola: Heh yeh yeh yeh
EggEgg: Na na be yo be yo
How I loved to hear their voices in the semi darkness, under the comfort of a warm quilt, with their soft bodies next to mine. In no time, I fell asleep wearing a blissful smile. And they were still chattering away...
