Speech Therapy, Round 2: Initial Assessment

Oh EggEgg, why is it always EggEgg that has a problem?

At 2 years old, he could not say more than 5 words, and I had to bring him to speech therapy.  (http://ilovejappy.blogspot.com/2009/04/speech-therapists-assessment.html)

At 4 years old, he could not say anything comphrensible except to Tonton and I.  His grandparents, his aunty and uncle have no idea what EggEgg is saying.  "Is your son speaking Spanish or what?", my brother Alex jestingly commented.

We know EggEgg needs assistance again. But to the outsider who does not understand this developmental delay, they (grandparents, well meaning friends) tried to console us with statements such as, "Oh he'll be able to speak soon, I'm sure",  or, "He's just lazy with his pronunciation. He'll learn soon by himself."  There is a lot of misconception about speech therapy.  What they are really saying is, "You're over-worrying about your son. Speech comes naturally. Who needs therapy?"

After being on the waiting list for 6 months, the initial assessment report from our speech therapist says:

Moderate expressive language delay
In simple terms, EggEgg is only saying "yes, no, here" and simple single words throughout pre-school.  He only interact with the other kids in non-verbal manner.  His preschool teachers are very concerned.

Severe speech sounds delay
When EggEgg talks, his pronunciation is so horrid that the can't pronounce the consonants S, SH, W, H, T, P, V, F.  For example, tissue becomes "deedu", hot becomes "oar", Toby becomes "doby"

He mispronounce front consonants, drop middle consonants and leave out final consonants!  No wonder why he doesn't bother to speak to his friends, because nobody could understand him even if he did try.

Poor guy.
