is twinkling just for you
and Mr. Moon he came by
to say goodnight to you
There, you are sleeping again. Do you know, you have the sleeping habit of an angel? Once upon a time, I was spending countless hours everyday and every night, hushing, patting, coaxing EggEgg to sleep. Even Cola needed a dummy to help him drift off. But not you! I plonked you carelessly on the bed, whisper an urgent, "Good night, I must be going. Your 2 big brothers need me." and by the time I return minutes later, you are already fast asleep. Without any loud protest.
And at night, when you wake up and feel like looking around, you stare out at the window serenely for what seemed like hours. I blinked at you and felt deeply blessed.
You loved it when I hold your hands. You stop crying, rubbed your face against the cool cotton sheets, and closed your eyes. I loved to stare at your fat round cheeks.
If all the people around the world
they had a mind like yours
we'd have no fighting and no wars
there would be lasting peace on Earth
It's as if you have the sixth sense. Whenever the household chaos reaches a peak, you choose to go to sleep, as if meaning to lessen my burden. When I'm grinding coffee, frothing milk, making school lunchboxes... When EggEgg is demanding, "Mami, I want milk with milo and marshmallow, and not too hot please", Cola only wanted, "Ma-neh, I want to hold your hand". And you? You only wanted to sleep on my chest.
In a restaurant, you snuggled into my chest as soon as food is ordered, and you woke up when its dessert time. Is this how you showed your love for me?
If all the kings and all the leaders
could see you here this way
they would hold the Earth in their arms,
they would learn to watch you play
In the morning, we take long walks in the garden, up and down that footpath which you never grew tired of. We seemed to share the same preference for outdoor air. Somedays I have to tell you, "Baby, it's only 8C out there today, let's not go for a walk."
In the evening, we take long hot baths together. How we both enjoyed the total relaxation. Your head on my chest, quiet, just melting away in total contentment. Sometimes you fell asleep too, legs and arms limp, soaking in the water until your skin wrinkles. The question that plagues me each time is, "how do i get out of the bath?"
Oh my sleeping child the world's so wide
but you've build your own paradise
That's one reason why
I'll cover you sleeping child
You are my favourite alarm clock. Your mumbles of "Buey, gay, huey..." is enough to make me want to wake up and hold you. To open my tired eyes and see your immediate smiling face, it's priceless. Don't ever change that.
I'm enjoying you immensely. You are the role model of babies.
You are my joy, my pride. The apple of my eye. I love you, my child.
