Boy, what an afternoon! A four-hour trike ride pushing a 10kg toddler, with another 1.5 baby inside my tummy. Will I do it again? Yes!!
It's Wednesday, and things tend to be slow at home during the mid-week. After a late breakfast at 11:30, I decided to take EggEgg out for his regular trike ride. On the driveway, we met our neighbor's pet, Jack the cat. EggEgg gets excited and loves playing with that cat whenever he randomly appears. I knew this must be our lucky day.
Feeling energetic and adventurous, we found a new shortcut around the back of the school that takes us quicker to the main roads. Yay, no more torturous crest to tackle!
Our next exciting encounter: lots of big trucks and diggers were paving a new road! EggEgg was absolutely fascinated and took note of all the beeps and actions going on, as if watching a live Beijing Olympic event. Lately, he's obsessed with everything that moves. Cars. Buses. Planes. Trucks.
We pushed on, making our way to the university's duck pond. (Rarely do we come here due to the distance.) EggEgg's eyes shone as soon as he saw the gigantic water fountain and the herds of ducks flocking around the pond. I gave EggEgg bits of bread to feed the ducks. It is interesting to note that, just a few months ago, he was tempted to eat the bread crumbs himself. This time, with a yummy cake in his right hand, and the crumbs in his left hand, EggEgg made no mistake discerning which food is meant for the ducks and which food is meant for himself.
We waved bye-bye to the ducks and make way to the cafeteria for lunch. Some university students honing their skateboards skills in the courtyard and EggEgg is totally in awe. Several girls walked by this tiny toddler, and could not help exclaiming, "He's so cute! He's so cute!" Hehe... of course I'm beaming with pride.
At the rate EggEgg is adapting to spicy food, I suspect that we could take him to a full-fledged Sichuan restaurant by the time he turns 3 years old. I ordered a kebab with chilli sauce on it, and that didn't deterred EggEgg from chomping down half my lunch.
After lunch, we met a new toddler friend. EggEgg played soccer with her golden ball. He's getting very sociable lately.
By 2:30pm, EggEgg was too exhausted on his trike and refused to be pushed any further. I had no choice but to sit on pavement with him: Watching the birds in the trees singing overhead. Counting the buses coming by. Picking dandelion around us. It is very relaxing, very peaceful. Time flew and I thought, "whew, this must be what life is all about!"
Urging and persuading and using all my tricks, I managed to put EggEgg back into the trike to go on the last leg home. Dear me, I have absolutely no sense of direction! I took a wrong turn and ended up in one of the neighborhood parks.
EggEgg is delighted to see his favourite slide and has decided that he does have some reserved energy still! Lately, he had acquired the agility to climbed up the slide by himself, and the courage to slide down without assistance. Heehee...
It took us another hour to get home, and as soon as he is inside the house, he pulled out his "Trucks" picture book from the bookshelf and showed it to me. As if he needed to revise on the sights and sounds of this afternoon.
As for myself, I was totally exhausted and laid on the bed for the next 2 hours...
