I frown upon those who hinted to me: "Since you don't need to work, you're so free".
I wake up next to baby Cola, half tired after waking up 3 times in the night to feed him. Hmm... must tiptoe out of the bedroom ever so gently so that he is unaware of my absence. 10 minutes limit: brush my teeth, wash my face, change my clothes that reek of milk, poo and vomit... Then baby is alert: where's Mami? I had to report to duty immediately: feeding and changing nappy with a quiet efficiency in under 20 minutes, before EggEgg starts banging on his door complaining of starvation.
Opening the cage of the "ferocious beast" (as we call him these days), I had to forge a path into his bedroom that's littered with toys. He dashes into the kitchen, claims his rightful breakfast, while I strive to feed myself and entertain Cola at the same time. Sometimes EggEgg pretend to have lost the ability to feed himself, so I had my left hand feeding EggEgg, right hand feeding myself, and foot swaying the baby in the bouncer...
All this is just the first hour of the day. There was a friend who loved to phone me on early mornings, and is furious to know why I'm not picking up the phone most of the time, since I'm so free, so she claimed.
In the second hour of the day, after Cola happily dozed off for his morning nap, there's 90 minutes to complete the next set of tasks: change EggEgg's nappy, wash the dishes, do the laundry, prepare lunch, all while keeping EggEgg entertained and out of mischief.
And if I fail to complete those tasks within the specified time, no worries, I just have to do them in the afternoon while carrying a 6kg baby. Plus extra duties too: bath the 2 kids, change bed sheets, hang out the laundry, feed them lunch...
On good days, if all goes according to schedule, we'd even have time to go to the park: 40 minutes of pushing EggEgg up ladders, loading and unloading him from bouncy horses, going down slides (with the baby!).
No wonder why I'm feeling lethargic all the time lately. I fall into a heap by 3pm in the afternoon, tired from the intense workout and the stress of housework. There's hardly any blog about our activities in the afternoon coz everything is becoming a blur...
"Stressed at home? Why, housewives just watch TV all day and goes shopping when they are bored", so my single friends imagined. "And you don't even cook!"
I crave for a break from this physical activity. No, no, not until after 9pm each night, after both kids are asleep. Picking up toys, washing dishes past 1am is becoming routine lately.
My best complain to Tonton on a bad day is: I'm going back to full time paid work. Oh, yeah, 9 to 5, Mondays to Fridays. Now that would be real work.
