Musical beds

There are 4 beds in our house: 1 family bed, 1 guest bed, 1 toddler bed and 1 baby cot. With Tonton, EggEgg, Cola and I, our sleep arrangements is like a regular game of musical beds.

Some mornings, the 4 of us are cramming into the main bed. It's surprising that none of us has fallen out. In the semi-conscious state, I got very confused: who headbutted me just then? Whose hand was it that pulled my hair? And hey, stop kicking me!

Some afternoons, I lie on the guest bed with one kid on my left and one kid on my right. They insist that I must FACE their direction and HOLD them at the same time. So afternoon nap time is an acrobatic feat: I must try to look at one of them in the face while twisting my body 180 degrees to cuddle the other kid.

Some nights, I was so tired that by the time I finished singing the lullaby for little Cola, I fell asleep right inside the baby's cot. Yes, inside. And it would be midnight before I wake with an aching back and feet that has no blood circulation for hours.

And even if I were lucky enough to have the energy to climb out of the cot, EggEgg would be whispering across the room, "Mami, my turn. Stay with me for a while." Every 5 minutes or so, EggEgg kept reminding me, "Mami, my turn." "Mami, are you coming?" "Mami, stay with me."

This very week, I fallen asleep twice inside baby's cot, and twice in Egg's toddler bed. EggEgg gave me a headbutt around midnight, a reminder that I should move back to my own bed.
