It was a huge project that took up the entire month of April. Every week our garbage bin, recycle bin and garden bin were all filled to the brim.
We had a complete garden makeover: with a new electrical trimmer to clean cut the edges, new mulches for the flower bed, aggressive pruning of all the invading branches from our neighbour's trees, weeding, weeding and forever more weeding.
And within the house, I finally have the heart to give away my beloved books, 6 whole boxes of them! Donating 2 suitcase full of kids' clothes to charity, giving away homeware to friends. A whole month to go through each room, each drawer, each box. Some startling findings:
- We have over 30 unused bags in storage: backpacks, school bags, shoulder bags, waist bags, travel bags, sports bags, baby bags. Off to charity you go, we only have 2 shoulders per person.
- EggEgg have over 20 pairs of new jeans, and 15 new jackets. Please stop buying clothes, dear grandparents.
- Around $500 worth of unused goods, destined to be sold on Ebay
Did I mention it feels so good to be at home? Even visiting friends have commented about the place. (Mental pat on my back. Good job, Jappy.)
Why have I delayed doing this for so long? We've been truly busy for the past 6 months, as evidenced by the drop in blog entries.
Oct 2009: Trip to Jakarta to see my side of family
Nov 2009: Trip to Hong Kong to see Tonton's side of family
Dec 2009: Christmas celebrations, catching our breath home.
Jan-Feb 2010: My mum comes visit. A renewed fervour of activity: sewing, chatting, shopping, chatting, cooking, more chatting.
Mar 2010: Intensive dream house hunting
Now, it's time for more projects to come in the next couple of months:
- Holiday to Japan
- Raising chickens in the backyard
ps. To George my neighbour next door
Repeat after me, you garrulous ignoramus: Just because a housewife doesn't have a formal job, she is NOT bored, NOT idle, NOT just sitting there eating chips and drinking beer all day.
Now stop bothering me and get yourself a wife.
