I like it and I want you to like it too

When I was still in primary school, I once loved a cartoon called "Laputa, the castle in the sky". It was the only movie ever that I've watched three times at the cinema. One day, I asked my teenage cousins to watch it with me because deep in my heart, I wanted them to like it, to savour it, to appreciate it as much as I did.

It was very sad to realise that they were taking me to see the show merely out of obligation, without enjoying it at all. As for me, I was NOT happy because THEY were not happy. And they could not understand why I was not happy, even though they have done a favour which was supposed to make me happy.

**************************
Today, I put in a new Wiggles DVD for EggEgg while I do some housework. After the show is over, I was still scrubbing, cleaning, wiping.

I asked EggEgg, "Is the new Wiggles DVD good?"
EggEgg replied, "Yes it's good. Mami [should] watch together."

I tried wriggle my way out with logic, patting his head. "Well, you're a big boy now, you can watch it by yourself."
"EggEgg want Mami to sit together to watch next time."
"But I'm busy at the moment..."
"EggEgg doesn't want one person. EggEgg want two person."

It dawns on me that part of the reason why he likes Wiggles so much is because he likes seeing me enjoying the show too. He likes seeing me peeping at his shy dancing. He likes seeing me pretending to be Captain Feathersword with the "Ahoy!" mannerisms. He likes seeing me bursting into the Wiggles songs whenever we bath together.

He likes seeing me liking what he likes. EggEgg has reminded me a of lesson that I've long forgotten.

The formula for happiness is thus:
He's happy that I'm happy that he's happy.
I'm happy that he's happy that I'm happy.

(And I've promised to make some time to sit and watch the Wiggles with him tomorrow.)
