It's EggEgg and Bobo's combined birthday. March is such a busy month I haven't got around to do any baking.
It's been a year since we ate some profiteroles, ever since we figured out that they are allergic to gluten and dairy, we haven't been able to buy those $2.50 packs of profiteroles from the supermarket.
So homemade profiteroles it is. First, 24 puffs made from rice flour.
Then I borrowed EggEgg's bicycle cone and wrapped it up in foil.
For decoration, the hibiscus are in bloom, so I picked some on the way coming home from church. Today is Easter Sunday too! I bought some of Bobo's favourite 啤梨梨 for decoration too.
Turns out 24 puffs is not enough to cover the entire cone! Well, we shall just do the front then. No body would know the bluff behind the scenes.
Looking good! Who could tell the difference?
Time it took on this special Easter Sunday:
Baking the puffs: 1 hour
Making the creme filling and piping: 1 hour
Caramelizing the syrup and gluing it to the cone: 1 hour
Decoration: 30 minutes
Strawberries $5
Flowers $0
Rice flour and sugar $5
Almond milk $2
Dozen eggs $5
The smile on their face: Priceless
Happy Birthday to my darlings. 6-year-old EggEgg and 2-year-old Bobo.
How time flies when one is having fun.
