(Previously I used to cringe when I hear other mothers refer to their school age children as "my baby". Come on, they are "little boys". Then I realised that, the reason they are called this way is because, we haven't noticed that they've grown up so quickly; our mind is still snap frozen in the period when they were still crawling, feeding and kicking in your arms. In a way, I've missed seeing him growing up. Too busy, too preoccupied with other matters. )
Instead of just saying "Happy Birthday, son", I also want to say, "Sorry, baby, I've missed a lot of your smiles. I've often ignore you, and I haven't play with you as much as you would like, everyday."

I've asked Cola if he would like a birthday party at home, but he insisted that "No, I don't want to have other kids at home. I just want Mami and Daddy and Big Brother and Baby. I want to have birthday party at school."

Happy Birthday, my beloved son.

Lolly bags rouse such an excitement! Since two weeks ago, I've been folding and filling lolly bags, and Cola checked on my progress every night. He makes sure that each kid gets enough lollies. Even though I've closed and sealed the bags, he reopens them in the morning to recheck the contents. And he proudly report to his grandparents over the phone, "Cola is having a birthday party. There are lots of birthday candy. It's in Mami's office!"

Thus we went for a swim in at the outdoor Paramatta pool on this hot summer day, with purple Jacaranda trees swaying merrily in full bloom along the way. "Mami, why are some trees red and some trees blue?" (Cola hasn't master the color Purple yet, obviously).
He picked a Black Forest cake among all the tempting cakes in the shop front, chanting, "Black Forest! Black Forest!"
We ended the day with a game of Carcassonne which he was able to play well.
